Prioring to attending the University of Toronto's Rotmand School of Management, Ryan Spong spent 5 years as an investment advisor. After graduation, he was recruited to investment banking at Barclays Capital in New York, where he wrote and passed his NASD Series 7 and 63. Upon returning to his native Vancouver, he founded Mainstreet Advisors, which seeks to raise capital and consult to micro-cap and startup companies. He invests his own money alongside fundraising efforts and will take board, advisory or operating roles as needed. In this capcacity, he has raised tens of millions of dollars for private and public companies, some of which he's served as CEO and CFO.
In 2006, he founded Preform Construction and Raincity Rock, which he grew and sold to Power Civil Contracting in 2013. In 2010, he invested in Tacofino Cantina, jumping in as operating partner to help it grow to nine locations, and then again with Superbaba in 2017. As CEO and co-founder of Vancouver-headquartered food-tech company Foodee, Ryan Spong is currently addressing the $210 billion online food market. Since 2014, he has put in place growth strategies that led to the 2017, 2018, and 2019 Deloitte Fast50 Awards. In 2021, Sodexo acquired Foodee, which today serves over 4,000 corporate clients in 15 major North American cities through 800 owner-operated restaurant partners. Foodee’s platform powers daily and weekly meal ordering to modern offices including Amazon, Facebook, Deloitte and Microsoft.
Ryan serves on the board of The Presidents Group, which advocates for accessible employment for those with physical or cognitive barriers. He and his family live in the growing tech startup (and restaurant) hub of Mount Pleasant in Vancouver, BC.
Foodee is an innovative food-tech company headquartered in Vancouver, Canada that delivers daily and weekly meals to modern offices in 12 major cities across North America. Our vision is to become the largest local food provider to modern offices but to own no kitchens, cook no meals and deliver no food. We have the power to innovate and overhaul an antiquated industry: corporate catering. We're en route to becoming the next Airbnb or Uber of office catering. We do this by connecting owner-operated restaurants, logistic experts and corporate clients looking to feed their teams (and company culture).
A regional group of fast-casual restaurants. Since 2011, Tacofino has grown from one truck to several brick-and-mortar locations with hundreds of employees. Tacofino serves surf-inspired food with a focus on slow-food practices and giving back to the communities it serves: from after-school programs to charitable donations.
Superbaba is our award-winning modern Middle Eastern quick-service restaurant. Made from scratch, we use fresh ingredients to make updated Middle Eastern classics. Our Pita bread is baked in-house daily. Led by Lebanese cook Dallah El-Chami, Superbaba is raking in accolades and growing quickly.
